This is an amazing experience, a once-in-a-lifetime activity! The trip started with a flight in a small plane, that... took only one hour to reach the camp. The trip by plane itself was a great experience as you could admire the landscape by the window and you feel as a private guest in such a small plane. Jacob, my driver and guide was waiting for me on arrival at the airstrip with a bottle of fresh water. On the way to the camp, we already saw zebras, elephants, giraffes!I was welcomed in the camp by Lydia with a delicious and refreshing juice. She explained to me the rules of the camp: you can go wherever you want during daytime but you should stay in your tent at night and only come out accompanied by a guard, as animals roam freely in the camp.Afterthat I discovered my tent: a luxurious accomodation with a very nice bed, a full bathroom and nicely decorated. You even have a box with a lock to keep your things and a small table camp and seat if you wish to write down your adventures at the end of the day!The camp is an eco-lodge so hot water is to be supplied on request on a daily basis. There is electricity in both the bathroom and room but you should light it only when needed. Otherwise there is also a small light near the bed if you want to read in the evening.I had a fabulous lunch (small pizza, fish, pasta, fresh veggies) and off I left with the driver for the excursion!Jacob was an excellent guide and driver: on the first afternoon we already saw a rhinoceros, lions sunbathing, and of course antilopes, topis, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, jackals etc.I was short of breath as this really is an incredible experience: animals go around absolutely free, they pass near your car or in front of it and they don't mind your presence, they are just looking around to hunt or giving signals to their peers.Jacob is an encyclopedia on animals and, as a Masai himself, he can explain a lot about the area, how Masai people cohabit with animals etc. His sight is impressive, I used binoculars but nevertheless he could see farther bared-eyes than I could with my binoculars. He is always happy to stop in order to let you take pictures, and tries to get the best angle possible for you to see animals. He also explained the flora, the trees and the flowers surrounding the savannah.Dinner back at the lodge was delicious, restaurant-type with "profiteroles" for dessert! To be noted the impressive terrasse with a breathtaking view on the Mara triangle area, the river and the horizon far away. The next day was a full game drive day. Jacob took me to see hippos and crocodiles as well near the river. We had a great picnic lunch in the middle of the savannah. He drove me up to the border with Tanzania. We saw a few lions roaming around looking for shade. We even spotted a cheetah in the afternoon who was lazingly having a rest in the high grass. We drove in the savannah for the whole day and I was very happy to enjoy a nice shower and delicious meal on arrival in the evening. Mamboshi the guard was very careful to join me whenever I needed to go out for dinner in the evening. Moses helped at the dinner and I am grateful for Sarah who put a bottle of hot water in my bed for the night, as evenings can be chilly, Masai Mara being up to 1.500 meters high.I cut my phone for my whole stay and enjoyed every bit of it. However, if needed there is wifi access in the camp. The last day, we left at 6 am to enjoy a game drive before leaving to the airstrip. It was amazing seeing the sunrise on the savannah. We packed breakfast and had it in the savannah. We saw again antilopes, giraffes and elephants on the way to the airstrip.I felt nostalgic to leave Masai Mara though I only spent two nights there. It is an amazing trip I would recommend to anyone! A family with kids were staying in the same camp and they enjoyed their time as well.I guess that the unfortunate time of covid-19 pandemic also made us lucky to have few cars roaming around the park, so it was a breathtaking trip without many tourists around.read more

I took my family on a holiday of a lifetime last month, all arranged through Phoenix. Our expectations were high and... we were not disappointed.Dipa managed our requirements expertly. I had a reasonable idea what I wanted to do but Dipa came up with lots of really useful advice and options to get the most out of our precious time in the country. All of the hotels recommended exceeded our expectations, the travel connections worked faultlessly and the communication was first class throughout. We took a number of the optional side trips which added extra dimensions to the experience.Best of all was George, our guide, who was outstanding. One of only a small number of 'silver' grade guides, his knowledge was phenomenal, and matched only by his enthusiasm to share his amazing country with us. We travelled as a family group of 5 with a range of ages and appetites to satisfy. George made the whole experience very personal for each one of us and completely unforgettable for us as a group. We were brilliantly looked after by Phoenix at every stage of the process and the execution was faultless. Highly recommend to anyone combining some time in the game parks with some time on the beach and, as we did, some time up country to get a sense of the amazing diversity of Kenya as a country.I understand why so many people are put off travelling there at the moment, but at no time did we feel that we were in any danger. The Kenyan Government is clearly taking steps to reassure tourists and most of the places you want to go are perfectly safe. You do need to be careful to avoid some localised areas but that is what local knowledge is for. So if you are not put off then I would highly recommend in-country experts like Phoenix to take care of your travel plans. Thank you so much Dipa and especially George for the amazing and safe time that you arranged for us. We will be back!read more
