7 Days/6 Nights Mount Kenya – South-North Traverse/ Kamweti – Sirimon

Day 1 - Arrival

You leave Nairobi at 10.00am and drive to Forest Castle Lodge (2000m) for lunch on the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya. The afternoon can be spent walking around the scenic environment with high chances of coming across elephants and buffaloes. Dinner will be next to a fire place in the dining room of Castle Lodge.

Day 2 – Old Forest Station

There is no need for an early breakfast in the humid and misty climate. After breakfast at 8.30am, you can leisurely pack your mountain gear and start the short 4 hour hike to Old Forest Station at 2400m where you will spend your night in tents. Lunch will be taken on the way in the natural bamboo forest.

Day 3 – Sagana River

After breakfast at the camp you hike on towards Sagana River Camp which is located at an altitude of 2980m. The hike with lunch on the way takes about 6 hours and leads through a dense bamboo forest. Just across the Sagana River you will find your fly camp already set up by the crew.

Day 4 – Thego River Camp

After a good night`s rest your walk continues through the bamboo forest and heath and moorland. The Thego River Camp at 3750m is your next destination. Lunch will be taken on the way. The hike takes about 6 hours and, if lucky, you may encounter some wild animals on the way. After dinner you climb into your sleeping bags early to get a good rest and escape the cold.

Day 5 – Mackinders Camp

Your climb continues for about 3 hours to Lake Hohnel through beautiful tropical alpine vegetation, dominated by senecia and lobelia. You will stop for a lunch break at the scenic lake and enjoy a view of the clear waters. After another two hours you finally reach Mackinders Camp at 4250m in the Teleki Valley. Overnight will be at Teleki Hut (Mackinders Camp) where you will take a good rest in the dormitories in preparation for next day's challenge of the Lenana Peak.

Day 6 – Lenana Peak

After an early morning breakfast at 4.00am the hike takes you via a steep scree to Austrian Hut at 4790m. Here you have a short break with some hot tea and biscuits before the final challenge on Point Lenana (4895m) via Lewis Glacier. After watching the sunrise and taking your summit photos you descend on the northern side via Simba Cole to Shiptons Camp (4200m) where lunch will be taken. Thereafter you continue down on the Sirimon Route to Old Moses Camp at 3400m. After dinner you will have a well deserved rest after a very strenuous, but eventful day.

Day 7 - Departure

Your final descend takes you to the Sirimon Gate. Here you meet your driver for onwards transfers. After a light lunch you bid your crew goodbye and head to Nairobi.
